Health and Wellbeing
The Battersea Community Hub believes its responsibility to make Christ known to the world includes a moral obligation to preserve human dignity by promoting optimal levels of physical, mental, and spiritual health.
In addition to caring for those who are ill, this responsibility extends to the prevention of disease through effective health education and leadership in promoting optimum health, free of tobacco, alcohol, other drugs, and unclean foods. Where possible, we shall be encouraged all to follow a primarily vegetarian diet.
N.E.W.S.T.A.R.T
This is an acronym for a healthier lifestyle (nutrition, exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, air, rest, and trust).
An important part of our 8 Laws of Health program is prevention. Early detection, screening, and preventative interventions are promoted to help people protect against health risks. The department tries to keep updated on policies and targets, ensuring that good practice is implemented.
SUPPORT
These programmes are centered on individuals as we try to empower each person to live healthier lives. Some programmes consist of short demonstrations and health checks, others last a few weeks and focus on skills, knowledge and behavioral change.
To ensure a successful outcome there is a follow-up process for every individual. For example, after health counseling, some individuals are signposted to statutory bodies, such as their GP, and voluntary sector organisations, such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
